Could Russia’s Hidden Mediterranean Drone & Missile Arsenal Overwhelm Spain? | DCS
Twenty ballistic missiles. One hundred drones. Two disguised tankers. Can Spain stop the attack?
In this fictional DCS World scenario, we explore a surprise attack launched from the sea, putting Spain’s air defences and fighter aircraft under pressure in two successive waves.
First wave: ballistic missiles
The simulation begins with a disguised oil tanker positioned approximately 250 miles off Spain’s southwest coast. It launches 20 ballistic missiles, leaving Spain’s Patriot air defence system to intercept the incoming threat.
Can the defenders stop the barrage—and how many missiles will get through?
Second wave: 100 drones
The attack escalates when a second converted tanker launches 100 Russian-made drones towards a fictional coastal terminal.
Spain’s EF-18 Hornets and Eurofighter Typhoons scramble to defend the target, employing Meteor, AIM-120 AMRAAM and IRIS-T air-to-air missiles.
With so many targets approaching, destroying individual drones is only part of the challenge. The defenders must also manage their available weapons as the attack unfolds.
Can Spain hold the line?
This scenario explores the challenge of defending against successive missile and drone attacks from an unexpected direction. Will Patriot and the fighter force be enough to protect the terminal?
