  1. Hi Cap, here is my 2 cents.

I flew IL2 in the ol’ days (2003-6) in “full real” missions also tried A10 Attack but it was too complicated.
Now I just installed DCS and A10c… and I want to master it 😉 but still having a hard time.

But here comes the problems… and that’s for someone who knows what he needs but having problem to finding it.

So what the DCS should have is a on the start screen is links to different flying groups and contact information.

    Like:
What do you want to fly? Military, comercial, ww2, etc
    Game or sim?
    etc, etc
And that gives you a list of possible groups to join and contact info etc, (like you guys) that takes on noobies and where I can learn from and togeather with other noobs and pros.

    But there should also be:
    Where to download good key-mappings
Where to find training missins that are not broken, the missions inside A10c are “broken” if you do something incorrect and they are linear, you can’t go back 30 sec, you have to start from the beginning and wait 10 min to do the same mistake again 🙁

Btw, do you take on half-noobs like me? Who should I contact?

    Aspirant Spider, Sir!

PS I Could start in an hour, got DCS, A10c, TrackIR, Discord and my Hotas installed. DS

  2. You guys do a great job…. here’s a question I have, What’s the difference between DCS from Eagle Dynamic’s website and DCS from Steam? I can’t find the F14 on Eagle Dynamics but it’s on Steam. If my version comes from Eagle Dynamics website and I want the F14 from Steam will it run properly? I like flying in VR… is there a way to use mouse in aircraft while flying in VR?

    1. Cap says “I do not use Steam, only ED version. ED version is superior as it has more $sales etc. F-14 is on ED version, should be there at least. Not sure about mouse in VR Im afraid. Good luck. You can join our discord https://discord.gg/cATmE3d (16+ age limit) and talk to the VR boys in our public lobby”

  3. Hi. William. Cap says “Uninstall EVERYTHING. Then download the non-steam version from ED website. Thats what I did and worked. ALSO remember that DCS has a repair function to self-repair. Use this. Search “grim reapers DCS repair”. Thanks”

  4. Not to waist anyones time, but would love to play it, if it would just load past 61%,..probably have close to $200 invested,…..Steam says its a problem with DCS,….DCS doesnt even respond to my inquires,……been going on for about 18 months,…..ANY help would be greatly appreciated,..Thanks Will.

  5. Cap, I have two suggestions:

    1. We need what I call an integrated road map that tells a new user (like me) exactly how to start and the steps required/suggested on how to get to flying an F/A-18 or other complex aircraft. GR has some of this content already and maybe it just needs better organization. I’d suggest something like a video with an associated document that says something like step 1, your going to need disk space, check you system. Step 2, check your graphics card. Step 3 download DCS. Step 4 set up the HOTAS for TF-51. Step 5 watch this GR video. Step 6 start DCS, pick the TF-51, practice starting the engine. These are just example steps and the real steps would be more detailed and tie to your existing GR videos. I think the important part of this would also be the associated paperwork that would allow a student to track their progress and make notes. GR could also augment this by stepping thru these steps just like a teacher in a classroom setting using a video stream. Class will be held every Thursday at noon Z for six months, something like that. If needed, students could make a voluntary donation via Pateron for to their teacher. Just a thought…

    2. I like the idea of a cap talking head in the program to help people when they have trouble. I was thinking about how to implement this. I’d encourage ED to embed HTML triggers into their code in many different locations. Essentially in different parts of the DCS program, like maybe just after a crash or when your P-51 engine is about to blow up, ED launches a HTML (think web browser command) request. That command would include telemetry about what was happening in the game at the time the request was made (think engine setting, attitude, velocity, damage model parameters, etc.). This is the important part, for me anyway, third parties like GR could write a program that runs in a web browser that receives that request and decides what to do with it based on the telemetry included. That’s when caps head pops up and say “hey dummy your engine is overheating and your about to crash, look at this dial, turn your RPM lever down or jump out of your airplane”. ED could include a switch someplace that says don’t send these HTML request out because I’m flying combat missions now and don’t want to be bothered. I think the important part to emphasize to ED is that third parties, not ED, build these applications. The larger community will be very creative and spend huge amounts of time building these “helper” applications. Something ED could never afford to do and might not be very good at it either. Different parties could build different apps in different languages and since it’s HTML they could change as needed. Sorta like SRS does now.

    Humbly submitted thoughts….

I really like GR, love the attitude and friendship displayed daily. I watch your videos each and every day as I try to get better at DCS (I’ve only been flying for a few months now).
