  1. Cap,

I was entertained by your War Games 41 video.

You missed one important piece: The Enterprise and escorts were returning from a ferry mission, and were approximately 215 miles west of Oahu. Given the warning, her planes could have threatened the Japanese fleets 150 miles northwest of Oahu, or reinforced the defences of Pearl Harbor, especially since the fighters could land to rearm and refuel at the many airfields and auxiliary airfields on the islands.

If the warning had come even a day earlier, the Lexington and her escorts might possibly have gotten close enough to threaten the Japanese fleets, and cause them to abort the attack due to the loss of strategic and tactical surprise.

The Saratoga was embarking her air wing at NAS San Diego, and unavailable (but safe).

We had broken the IJN Purple Naval Code, and had intercepted the attack signal (Climb Mount Niitaka) on December 2nd. Properly acted upon, all crews could have been recalled. Additional reconnaissance flights implemented, and significant CAPs established. It is somewhat debatable whether the ‘battleship admirals” of the Pacific Fleet would have chosen to keep the major combatants in Pearl Harbor where defences could be concentrated, or sortie.

In that scenario, it is very likely the Japanese would have aborted the attack, IMHO. If they DID attack, it could have been defeated for the most part.

    Cheers,

    • Thanks for the feedback!

I now have a researcher so fingers crossed these start getting more realistic.

  3. I found your videos quite interesting, but I am curious, are you all just a bunch of like minded gamers or do any of you have any actual airforce military training? Just curious if you do actually have airforce and it’s impact on the videos.

  4. Cap,

I hope you’re doing very well. I’m a big fan what you and the GR boys and girls do. Very entertaining and educational for those of us trying to master DCS.

I have a question for you. How do you set up your WWII battles involving Japanese air and naval forces in the Pacific against either contemporary or modern U.S. forces? I bought the WWII assets pack from DCS, but I can’t find Japanese ships or WWII U.S. ships.

    Thanks,
    Rob
